ZOARA was the name of an ancient Biblical city near the Dead Sea. It was one of the five cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and was also called the City of Dates.
The name ZOARA represents a period in history when the most common crop in the region – the date – was widely used to make alcohol. That period ended 2,000 years ago, and since then alcohol production from dates in this region was halted.
Today we are changing that. We have revived this ancient tradition and integrated modern technological processes, and culinary expertise to create a truly unique drink.
First, we ferment the dates into date wine. Then the date wine is distilled into a clear and pleasant ‘Eau de vie’ with a delicate sweet aroma and a round full body. We then infuse the date distillate with local botanicals to create flavorful drinks that reflect our special place and time.
